On Saturday, March 28, all the UIL Academics teams competed at the district meet and earned their 15th consecutive district championship. Students competed across every event, bringing home top finishes and a long list of region qualifiers.
The results are as follows:
In Accounting, the individual results were: 5th – Paige McKee, 6th – Breanna Waits The team of Paige McKee, Breanna Waits, Asora Rahman, Ashley Mai, and Madison Loupe earned 2nd place.
In Calculator Applications, the individual results were: 1st – Jannath Bhojani (region qualifier), 2nd – Wyatt Wilson (region qualifier), 3rd – Ashley Mai (region qualifier), 4th – Breanna Waits The team of Jannath Bhojani, Wyatt Wilson, Ashley Mai, and Breanna Waits earned 1st place, advancing to region as the top team.
In Computer Science, the individual results were: 1st – Marshall Vaught (region qualifier), 2nd – Wyatt Wilson (region qualifier), 3rd – Isaac Pinder (region qualifier), 4th – Trace Salinas, 5th – Lane Braus, 6th – Michelle Bradley The team of Marshall Vaught, Wyatt Wilson, Isaac Pinder, and Trace Salinas earned 1st place, qualifying as the top team.
In Copy Editing, the individual results were: 3rd – Louis McClelland (region qualifier), 4th – Annabelle Claybar
In Editorial Writing, the individual results were: 1st – Taylor Huckaby (region qualifier), 2nd – Liberty Trupke (region qualifier), 3rd – Jannath Bhojani (region qualifier)
In Feature Writing, the individual results were: 1st – Laken Hardy (region qualifier), 2nd – Bailey Gorham (region qualifier), 3rd – Liberty Trupke (region qualifier)
In Headline Writing, the individual results were: 1st – Annabelle Claybar (region qualifier), 2nd – Louis McClelland (region qualifier), 3rd – Laken Hardy (region qualifier)
In Informative Speaking, the individual results were: 4th – Arden Robison
In Mathematics, the individual results were: 2nd – Wyatt Wilson (region qualifier), 3rd – Isaac Pinder (region qualifier), 4th – Breanna Waits The team of Wyatt Wilson, Isaac Pinder, Breanna Waits, and Michelle Bradley earned 1st place, qualifying for region as the top team.
In News Writing, the individual results were: 1st – Liberty Trupke (region qualifier), 2nd – Laken Hardy (region qualifier), 3rd – Jannath Bhojani (region qualifier)
In Number Sense, the individual results were: 1st – Wyatt Wilson (region qualifier), 2nd – Basar Nabil (region qualifier) The team of Wyatt Wilson, Basar Nabil, Faith Corona, and Isaac Pinder earned 1st place, qualifying for region as the top team.
In Persuasive Speaking, the individual results were: 2nd – Peyton Brewer (region qualifier), 4th – Nathan Sherwin
In Poetry Interpretation, the individual results were: 1st – Sean Patrick (region qualifier), 6th – Canyon Gaulden
In Prose Interpretation, the individual results were: 3rd – Mahalia Langely (region qualifier)
In Ready Writing, the individual results were: 2nd – Bailey Gorham (region qualifier)
In Social Studies, the individual results were: 3rd – Jaxon Coats (region qualifier), 4th – Kaitlynn Jarreau
In Spelling, the individual results were: 2nd – Wilford Jonsson (region qualifier), 4th – Ashley Holmes
Sophomore Liberty Trupke shared her how she feels about her results from district.
“Going to regionals feels fantastic,” Trupke said. “I am glad that all my hard work during the UIL season has paid off. I cannot wait to compete at regionals with my UIL friends, and hopefully we will go to state!”
The region‑qualifying individuals and teams in each event will compete at the Regional Meet at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches on April 25.
“To prepare for computer science, I’m going to continue practice as usual since there isn’t much competition in our region,” junior Wyatt Wilson said. “For math events, I’m planning to increase the time I spend practicing so I can get faster, and hopefully more proficient with the calculator.”
