STAAR is a mandatory standardized testing program for Texas public school students in grades third through tenth. STAAR stands for State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness. STAAR measures academic progress in reading, language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies based on state curriculum standards. STAAR ensures students are learning the required material and are prepared for the next grade level and graduation.
STAAR will be held on the following days: April 13, April 21, and April 28. April 13 will be English 1 and 2. Students who need to take both tests will take one on April 13 and one on April 14. April 21 will be Biology and U.S. History. Students who need to take both tests will take one on April 21 and one on April 22. April 28 will be Algebra 1. If students are taking the STAAR, rosters will be posted in the hallway by Tuesday, April 7.
Students who are not required to take the test will have a late start with classes beginning at 12:20 p.m.. Those students have the option to eat lunch on campus from 11:35-12:15 p.m.
If students are stressed or just a bad tester, there are some things they can do to make testing much easier. Some of these things include taking a mental break, getting a good night’s rest, eating a good, nutritious breakfast, and taking their time.
