Pastel-colored yarn draped across tables, joyful conversations, and the gentle sound of laughter fill the library during the late afternoon hours.
Student services coordinator Dana Cart has created a new crochet club this spring for teachers to attend after school.
“I opened the club specifically to staff because we all need to take a little time for ourselves,” Cart said. “This is a great opportunity to unwind, be creative, and get to know each other.”
Art teacher Kaitlyn Sweeney was one of the first members to join the club.
“I wanted to gather with friends and learn how to crochet,” Sweeney said. “It is something I have wanted to do for a long time but just could not get started on my own. With the group, it helps me stay more focused.”
According to Cart, her inspiration for starting the new club was simply a desire to share her love of crochet with others.
“Crochet has really made a comeback, and I think a lot of people want to learn but do not always know where to start,” Cart said. “Crochet Club is a place for all levels of experience to come together, be creative, and have fun.”
The space can be very focused or social, depending on the day.
“When we all get busy and really focused, it becomes quiet in the room,” Sweeney said. “It is a great way to end the day.”
Sweeney shared her thoughts on the club.
“The group is very fun and easygoing,” Sweeney said. “It is a wonderful environment to learn a new skill.”
Cart says her goal is for everyone to learn the basics, relax, and have a good time.
“If people are excited about what they have learned and a little sad when our meetings come to an end, I’d call that a success,” Cart said.
