As one of the school’s assistant principals, Carmichael Wiley, prepares to step into a new role focused on College, Career, and Military Readiness, the shift represents more than just a change in title—it marks a renewed commitment to preparing students for life beyond graduation. Built on leadership, relationships, and a drive to grow, this next chapter is both a challenge and an opportunity to make a lasting impact.
After serving as assistant principal, a role often defined by fast-paced decision-making and daily campus management, the transition brings a more focused mission.
“I would describe this role as helping students get ready for life after high school,” Wiley said. “Whether that is college, a career, or the military, my goal is to make sure every student has a clear path and the support they need to be successful after graduation.”
While his current position centers on discipline and operations, his new responsibilities will take on a more strategic and data-driven approach.
“My responsibilities will shift from the broad scope of an assistant principal to a more focused role centered on College, Career, and Military Readiness,” Wiley said. “Overall, this position is more strategic, with a clear focus on long-term student outcomes rather than day-to-day campus management.”
That long-term focus is what drives many of his goals for the upcoming year. From increasing industry certifications to expanding student participation in career pathways, his priorities center on opportunity and preparation.
“The main priority is making sure students graduate with the skills and experiences they need to be successful after high school,” Wiley said. “We want to build strong systems early so students are supported throughout high school, not just at the end.”
In his first year, Wiley hopes to lay a strong foundation that will continue to grow over time.
“I want to set a clear vision for college, career, and military readiness and build systems that support it,” Wiley said. “Ultimately, I want to build something that is sustainable and continues to improve outcomes for students year after year.”
The decision to pursue this role did not happen overnight. It came from a combination of personal reflection, professional ambition, and a desire to expand his impact.
“I was inspired by the opportunity to grow as a leader and support students from a different lens,” Wiley said. “If I want to lead at a higher level, I need to understand multiple areas of education.”
Family also played a key role in shaping that decision.
“My family influenced my decision the most,” Wiley said. “This role gives me the opportunity to grow while still maintaining that balance, which made the decision clear for me.”
As he prepares to step into this new chapter, a mix of emotions comes with it.
“I feel excited, a little nervous, and very eager,” Wiley said. “The nervousness comes with stepping into something new, but I see that as part of growth.”
Even with excitement for the future, leaving behind his current role will not be easy.
“I will miss the daily interaction with students the most and the ability to build relationships and mentor them,” Wiley said. “I will also miss the people I work with… it has been one of the best teams I have been a part of.”
Those relationships and experiences are part of what prepared him for what comes next. From managing discipline to supporting students and staff through challenges, his time as assistant principal has shaped his leadership style.
“The biggest challenges taught me how to stay calm under pressure, make consistent decisions, and communicate effectively,” Wiley said. “They reinforced the importance of relationships and having a strong team.”
Looking back, he takes pride not only in measurable accomplishments, but also in the culture built along the way.
“I am most proud of the relationships built with students and staff and how we worked together as a team to support students,” Wiley said. “Being part of a strong administrative team that stayed focused on what is best for kids was a major highlight.”
