Lights, camera, and a dream. Junior Chase Peacock is ready to capture the moment in time and piece it all together.
Peacock has been taking photos and videos of sports since late 2024. He said it was cool to get close to the game, and he thought it would be fun.
“I became interested in 2024 about halfway through last school year’s football season,” Peacock said. “I had an old camera, and I started attending sports games. It was so much fun to do. From there, I just gradually started getting better.”
Peacock takes photos for clients outside of school. He will take photos and videos of little league sports, media days, and advertisement videos. He posts his photos and videos on Instagram: @chase_prods.
“I turned it into a business by doing a lot of promotional things,” Peacock said. “Almost all of my work early on was free as that helped me build a base and helped to make sure my work was good enough to make a business out of. Posting my videos and photos all over social media was the main contributor to the growth of the business.”
Besides taking photos, Peacock is involved in various sports. He runs cross country and track and field. He also plays golf and basketball. Academically, he is a member of the National Honor Society and is a class officer.
“It takes a lot of time for me to balance taking photos and videos,” Peacock said. “Scheduling plays a big role in completing everything I need to do. I use my calendar almost every day to make sure nothing overlaps and gets in the way of each other. I always make sure to never cut things close since I need additional time to set up my equipment.”
Peacock plans on attending university to continue track and cross country at the collegiate level.
“I also plan to be on that university’s media team,” Peacock said. “It has been a dream of mine to further reach out and expand my experiences as well as get to work with college athletes.”
When it comes to editing, Peacock said it takes a long time. He has to pick which clips he wants to use and which song to play in the background. He uses Adobe Premier Pro to make the videos from start to finish.
“After I build the video, I watch it a few times to make sure it looks good,” Peacock said. “Then I will add aftereffects and any other touchups. After that, it is finished and ready to post.”
If Peacock could give advice to an aspiring photographer and videographer, he would tell them to talk to educated people in the same field so they can learn how to improve.
“Anyone can do it, but it takes time,” Peacock said. “You must trust in the process, as it takes a lot of hard work to truly become gifted at the craft.”
