Rodeo Queen by day and normal girl by night, senior Katy Spruill is a very multi-talented individual. Recently, she was crowned Special Angels Rodeo Queen. Spruill was accompanied through this journey by her teacher, Carlie Ford.
According to Ford, Spruill has changed her life in many ways. She has been in Spruill’s life for eight years and has helped her in many ways. Ford has been there for every step through the way, including this recent accomplishment.
“Watching Katy crowned Queen was a blessing,” Ford said. “With limited invitations, I was chosen to sit with her closest family and friends to watch with honor.”
Ford said she was so grateful and happy that she was there to see Spruell being crowned Rodeo Queen. Ford thinks that Spruill is a perfect representation of this title because of everything it stands for, such as inclusion, celebration, kindness, hope, inspiration, unity, and empowerment.
“I felt very happy to win,” Spruill said.
According to Ford, she is so excited to watch Spruill live out something that only a few people get to experience and she cannot wait to see what Spruill’s future holds. She also said she is holding onto the time they have together.
“I would describe Katy as outgoing, kind, and inspirating,” Ford said. “She is someone who wants everyone to be happy, laughing, and her friend. Katy has a smile that could light up a room and a laugh that is contagious. Katy has influenced my life by allowing me to be a part of hers. She has taught me so much in the last eight years. I was 19 years old when I began to work with her. I feel like we have grown up together. She has taught me about communication – the importance, the effectiveness, and what it looks like in different forms. Katy has influenced my life by teaching me how to find the good in everyone. Each and every day I could take something away from Katy that is valuable.”
