English I teacher Sarah Stevenson is taking over as the sponsor for the Key Club this school year.
“I wanted to sponsor Key Club because I believe in the importance of service and helping students develop leadership skills,” Stevenson said.
Stevenson said she has loved seeing the students’ enthusiasm and dedication.
“Many students have impressed me, especially those who consistently show up, stay positive, and help without being asked,” Stevenson said.
Stevenson shared what she hopes to accomplish with the club.
“My goals are to strengthen our sense of community, grow involvement, and build service traditions we can continue,” Stevenson said.
Outside of Key Club, Stevenson stays busy balancing her teaching responsibilities.
“Organization is key, and I view Key Club as an extension of my teaching since it helps students grow beyond the classroom,” Stevenson said.
Stevenson attended Lamar University, where she studied Business Management with a minor in Entrepreneurship. She said if she was not a teacher, she would probably work in a creative field like writing, publishing, or nonprofit work. In her free time, she enjoys reading, traveling, and spending time with family.
As the year continues, Stevenson hopes students take away more than just service hours from their time in Key Club.
“I hope they gain confidence, leadership skills, and the joy of serving others,” Stevenson said.
