From paraprofessional to assistant principal, Carmichael Wiley is jumping into his new role with hopeful ambitions for this school year.
After Wiley earned his bachelors and masters degrees from Texas Tech University, he stepped into his first role at C.H. Yoe High School and Orangefield High School; before that, he coached Women’s basketball at Mineral Area College and Texas Tech University. This year will be Wiley’s third year at LCM.
“The change from teaching and coaching to assistant principal has been both exciting and challenging,” Wiley said. “It’s taught me how to lead, motivate, and build relationships, and those skills have carried over into administration.”
Stepping into his new role, Wiley has many goals and priorities he is aiming to achieve through hard work and consistency.
“I want to support teachers in any way I can and make sure our students have the resources and guidance they need to succeed,” he said.
With this in mind, Wiley plans to grow into his role, while encouraging students and staff by celebrating their successes and being supportive through challenges. Being a part of their growth makes his work so meaningful.
“My advice would be to take time to listen and learn about the culture of the campus before making big changes,” Wiley said. “Don’t be afraid to ask questions, lean on mentors, and give yourself grace as you grow into the role.”
Wiley highly encourages everyone that is new to the school of is an upperclassman to join extracurriculars.
“Everyone here wants to see you succeed, so take advantage of the support and resources around you,” Wiley said.
Wiley is thrilled to be a part of LCM High School’s community and looks forward to learning, growing, and making a positive impact alongside the students and staff.
