Fashion teacher Devyn Duhon recently made pillowcases with her fashion students to donate to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.
The pillowcases that were made will be donated to an organization called Ryan’s Case for Smiles.
“This organization distributes the pillowcases to hospitals to be gifted to children who are battling cancer and other serious illnesses,” Duhon said. “Their goal is to brighten these children’s time in the hospital by providing a fun pillowcase.”
The fabric of the pillowcases was chosen with thought and was made sure to be age appropriate for the kids.
“We made pillowcases using kid-friendly fabric,” Duhon said. “We chose fabric with well-known characters or bright, fun patterns to make them fun!”
Junior Shelby Veitch said she enjoyed the process of making the pillowcases and likes the way they turned out.
“It included cutting the fabric, lining it up and pinning it straight then sewing it little by little,” Veitch said. “The experience of getting to make pillowcases for the kids in the hospital really warms my heart.”
Duhon said she is immensely proud of the challenging work that her students have put into this project.
“I love being able to watch my students use their newfound skills and talent to make a difference in someone’s life,” Duhon said. “A pillowcase is such a simple item, but to a child in the hospital and their families, it is a blessing.”
