Girls Golf Finishes Third in Tournament

This year, the Lady Bear Golf team, coached by Vicki Castino, won third in the H-J tournament and fourth in the Bridge City Tournament.

Golf, a hard sport despite people’s misgivings, is split into different team; boys and girls. Boys’ golf is coached by Aaron Burke. The girls team was original coached by Bart Williams until 1994 when LCM added a girl’s coach.

“I decided to take the position and I have never regretted it,” Castino said.

The team this year is full of under classmen and Castino said she is looking forward to the players getting better and improving.

“They are a great group,” Castino said of her team. “We have no seniors, so we will have everyone back next year in our new district.”

According to Castino, the Lady Bears have a really great team and the district race is going to be close.

Junior Morgan Collier is a member of the golf team and has been playing since her freshmen year. She said she is looking forward to a successful season and getting first place at district.

“This year we have been working really hard,” Collier said. “Even though we’ve been stopped by the weather, I have a feeling that it will not slow us down. We have a good team and I believe that we will place first with the skill level that we have.”
