Junior Dinah Tippins recently competed in the Regional track meet, where she placed third in the 200-meter dash and secured her spot as a Wild Card in the UIL 4A State Track Meet. She will compete in Austin this Thursday, May 1.
“I started doing track for the experience and to clear my head,” Tippins said. “It’s made a difference in my life by showing not only me but everyone around me what I can do, and how much more I can do.”
Tippins said her favorite part about track is mainly making memories with her team and having people she doesn’t know that come and support her. She also said her least favorite part about it was when she gets in her head about any of her events.
“A runner of Dinah’s caliber only comes through every few years,” head girls track coach Becca Peveto said. “She runs at an incredibly fast speed. She creates noise at every meet and gains attention everywhere we go. She is a great teammate; she leads by example and has excellent rapport with the underclassmen in the track program.”
Tippins said she prepared for this season by working out and training during the summer and the school year. She is excited to run this week and see what she will be going against next year.
“My goal for State is to be top 8 and mainly to beat my record,” Tippins said. “It’s bittersweet only because I don’t want to do this without my team.”
Tippins is looking forward to competing this week and is thankful for all those who have pushed her to be her best and helped her along the way.
“Thank you to all my friends, family, and teachers for supporting me and having the most faith in me,” Tippins said. “I can’t wait to see everyone at State and next year.”
