The 2013 Cross Country season is in full swing. So far, the team has had six meets and according to head coach Dena Adkins, the runners have done very well.

Senior Jace Bagwell and Junior James Armstrong are leading the team for the boys alongside Freshman Jenna James and Sophomore Ashton Wilson for the girls.

“I have a few runners that have done very well and have ran some good races and have improved their times from last year,” Adkins said.

Since the team has been improving their times from last year, they’re already on the road to reaching Adkins’ goals for the season.

“As always, my goal is to have the kids improve from week to week and for some, if not all of them, perform well enough at district to get to Regionals,”  Adkins said. “If they get to Regionals then they have a chance at going to State.”

In order to even think about advancing to the state level, the team must first do well enough to advance to the District and Regional meets.

“I expect the boys team to place either second or third in District and go to Regionals and I expect Ashton Wilson and Jenna James to place in the top ten and also head to Regionals,” Adkins said.

As of right now, there are more boy runners and Adkins said she would like to see more girls take an interest in cross country.

“I know we have some good runners out there,” Adkins said.

The teams will race this weekend at the Liberty Invitational at the Liberty Municipal Park.
