The Ribbon Run is held every year in downtown Beaumont.

This Saturday, the Julie Richardson Proctor 5K Ribbon Run will bring thousands of Southeast Texans together to bring awareness and raise money for Breast and Ovarian Cancer. The race will begin at 8 a.m. in downtown Beaumont. The money raised from the run does not leave the Golden Triangle and is only used for people in need of treatment but who are unable to afford it.

For those interested in registering for the 5K, they can visit www.event.giftoflifebmt.org or get a registration form from Woody Cox in room F-11. The registration fee is $25 and the package pick-up days are Oct.7-9 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Beaumont Civic Center.

Last year, the run had a total of 6,500 participants and this year, the foundation is expecting over 8,000 runners at the event.
The runners usually form teams to push through the race together, but many also choose to run by themselves and rely on the enthusiastic crowd to cheer them on. Participants also dress in crazy colored wigs and tutus to add to the fun and spirit of the race.

For students who would like to participate but do not have a way of getting to the event, the Key Club is getting a bus to transport students. For additional information about riding the bus to downtown Beaumont, contact Cox in room F-11.
