“The Triangle Factory Fire Project” to be shown this week

This week, the LCM Theatre Department will present its first production of the year, “The Triangle Factory Fire Project.” According to Theatre Director Cory Broom, the play is based on real events in United States History that took place in 1909 in New York. The factory the play takes place in is The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory (Shirtwaist was a popular clothing brand in the early 1900’s). The play centers around the chaos that ensues after a lit cigarette causes a factory fire.

“I picked this play because it’s a historical drama and I think it’s a story that needs to be told,” Broom said.

According to Broom, this play is immensely difficult and is one of the most challenging plays the Bear Stage Players have ever presented. There are many important elements to this play that are difficult to portray and will surely be impressive.

“The audience can expect to be entertained for sure, but also to learn something about our history that a lot of people may not know about,” Broom said.

As usual, the cast has been rehearsing immensely to make sure everything is just right. According to senior Triston Stringer, rehearsal can be pretty strenuous on some days, but most of the cast is experienced and can handle the pressure that comes along with this kind of production.

“This is probably one of the most talented groups I’ve ever directed,” Broom said.

The play will be shown this Saturday, Oct. 11 at 7:30 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 12 at 2:30 p.m., and Monday, Oct. 13 at 7:30 p.m.
