LCM High School will be hosting a Meningitis Shot Clinic on Tuesday, March 3. The deadline for registration is Tuesday, Feb. 27. The clinic will be held during school hours and is highly recommended for juniors and seniors that are looking into going to college. A meningitis vaccine is required for all students to attend a university in Texas.
If a student submits medical insurance, there is no fee for getting the vaccine, as the insurance will cover the cost. If a student does not have insurance, there is a fee of $10 for each student up to 18 years old.
Students must register for the clinic using the form provided here. Parent permission will also be allowed through the online form. The MCV4 vaccine will be administered to students at the clinic. It protects against strains A, C, W, and Y. Only the MCV4 vaccine should be selected on the form, as no other vaccines are required for college enrollment.
Meningitis vaccines are important for any students interested in college, as they help prevent the spread of a very dangerous disease. Meningitis vaccines are critical for preventing meningococcal disease, which is a rare but rapid, life-threatening bacterial infection that can cause brain damage, hearing loss, limb loss, or death. A crowded college environment puts more students at risk for contracting the disease.
The process for receiving the shot is very simple and will take less than a minute. On the day of the clinic, students will be called to the nurse’s office when it is their time to receive the shot. When they are finished, they will return to class with the paperwork that they will need to upload to the college portal as proof of receiving the vaccine.
There are a few common side effects of the vaccine that students should be aware of. These side effects include soreness around the injection site, redness, swelling, headache, fatigue, and fever. These side effects will typically last for a few days.
LCM will bring in Aurora Concepts to administer the vaccines to students. These vaccines will help juniors and seniors prepare for the future and cover all bases to be completely college ready.
