Stage lights, makeup done, and lines memorized, the theater is senior Canyon Gaulden’s second home.
Gaulden has been involved in theater for seven years. She first began theater in 6th grade and found interest in playwriting after joining a club in 8th grade. Gaulden said she loves being on stage and being able to act with her friends. She said that theater has changed her in many ways.
“It has changed me in a good way,” Gaulden said. “I am not afraid to talk to people or perform on a stage anymore.”
Gaulden said she has multiple motivators and inspirations for theater. The main two are her dad and actress and singer Eva Noblenzada. Gaulden said it is inspiring how Noblenzada started theater at the same age as her and made it very far.
“My dad has always encouraged me to do the things I want to do,” Gaulden said. “He always motivates me to keep going.”
When things get difficult or frustrating, Gaulden keeps going because of the thought of giving the final bow at the end of the show.
“If I had to give younger self advice, I would tell myself not to give up,” Gaulden said. “Giving up is worse than failing.”
Gaulden helps with taking pictures for theater and also manages social media pages. Outside of theater, she also plays Dungeons and Dragons. After high school, Gaulden will pursue playwriting.
“Being part of a show is like being part of a team,” Gaulden said. “People will rely on you, and you will rely on them. Everyone has a job and every one of those jobs is important.”
