Between the smell of pizza that feeds the soul and the sound of athletic trainers in work who mend it, junior Abigail Cole manages to do both. She works hard for an admirable future of being a nurse, helping others, yet still manages to balance school as well.
Both after school and within work, Abigail Cole works continuously to managing the difference of the two. She stays after school till 5:30 just to go to work right after, as well as working on the weekend. Her reason? To have a big future as a nurse.
“Being an athletic trainer and working is not the easiest,” Cole said. “I do not really have time to do extra things.”
Being an athletic trainer has demands. She has to be being able to push herself or be ready when worst comes to worst. On the other hand, working takes waking up early, going home late, and having to focus on work all day with only short breaks. They both take time away from her personal, out-of-school life. This does not deter her though, showing up to get work done.
“I think it takes a lot to do both,” Cole said. “there has been so many times where I have had mental breakdowns because I am always tired, but I live off Alanis.” Cole said. “So, no I do not recommend both, but I truly love doing both.”
Cole works an exhausting triple life yet manages anyways. She dedicates a lot to each of her classes as to not have homework, but when she does, she cannot always get it done. She does not recommend taking the tole of all of it but admires the experience of it all, enjoying the new people she meets, as well as regulars that show up.
“My work is a great job.” Cole said. “I am grateful my boss works with my schedule.”
As a routine trainer, Cole’s schedule is always changing yet she always arrives at school at 7:50. During her advisory period, she and her class discuss their game plan for that afternoon. She also does the ‘physical rush’ which is physical therapy. After school she gets ready for her practice then at 5 on Monday and Wednesday, and Tuesday at 6-6:30 she gets out and leaves for her job.
“I would not be who I am today without my wonderful parents constantly pushing me to be the best I can be and work for what I want.” Cole said. “Thank you, mom and dad. I love you.”
