The sound of turning pages, the laughter of children, and high school students learning what it takes to be in an educational career are all a part of the Instructional Practice course that is offered at LCM. Seniors Hope Edgerton, Addison Ezernack, Ryleigh Peveto, Daisy Harvey, Raelynn Wilson, Kalicy Perez, Lizzy Jones, and Kinsey Dryden are all part of this program for the 2025-26 school year.
These students can use what they learn in class for their future career or to learn more about how the education system works. Edgerton, Dryden, and Ezernack said they all enjoy their time while being enrolled in the Instructional Practice class.
“I enjoy being an education student because I am learning how to make a positive impact on students’ lives,” Dryden said. “I like gaining hands on experience and exploring how children learn.”
All three wish to pursue a career that involves teaching and instruction. Edgerton and Ezernack both wish to be teachers, while Dryden wants to go into physical therapy.
“It has shown me that this is truly what I want to do with my life,” Ezernack said. “I honestly thought that second grade would be too young to teach, but it’s really fun and they are a great group of kids.”
The education students schedule usually involves going to LCMCISD schools and assisting in a class. Each day can look different depending not only on the class they are helping in, but also which grade they are in.
“I normally get there an hour early which is when they are in specials, so I go join them in which class it is,” Edgerton said. “I play with them for an hour before we go back to the class, do some dances about the days of the week, months of the year, and counting to 100. After that, we do their assignment then I leave during snack time.”
Edgerton said she enjoys the class she teaches and likes learning by watching how the teacher runs her class.
“I enjoy being able to work with the little kids and learn all of their individual personalities,” Edgerton said. “It makes it for fun with how different they all are.”
