This past weekend, 30 LCM students traveled to Nederland High School to compete against approximately 1,100 students from every school in the surrounding region for a chair in the all region choir.

To prepare for the competition, these students learned three pre-selected pieces to perform in front of a panel of judges. These songs aren’t an average playlist on the radio, and often times, the songs are in different languages such as Latin.

LCM Choir Director, Nikki Hanson, worked hard to prepare her students for the competition.

“We focused on the region music during the class period, however students were given opportunities to meet before or after school for sectional,” Hanson said. “Lamar University also provided a day camp for any students desiring extra help.”

Out of all 30 students, 16 made the cut, which is a great success for the choir program.

“I am so very proud of every student who auditioned,” Hanson said. “We had several make it, but we also had students who missed by just a few points. Every student who participated learned and grew as musicians, and because of that our program will grow stronger.”

Students who competed at Region include: Victoria Crosson, Hannah Hodges, Alexis Wiley, Rachel Belcher, Caitlyn Sulak, Ciarra Kendall, Octavia Weimer, Nikki Mathis, Hailee Sawyer, Monica Daleo, Chandler Peveto, Logan Brown, Aidan Croaker, Chase Courtier, Julian Purgahn and Tyren Dews.
