UIL Academics has success at first invitational meet

The UIL Academics team competed in the Bridge City Smart Cardinals Brain Games this past Saturday, Nov. 12. LCM placed second overall with a total of 220 points, followed by Sabine Pass, who placed first with 249 points.

The Computer Science and Journalism teams both brought home the first place team plaques in their respective competitions.

The following students placed individually:

CX Debate: Laura Hughes and Bryn Parry – 6th place

Poetry: Cole Watson – 6th place

Persuasive Speaking: Sarah Howell – 2nd place, Cole Watson – 5th place

Copy Editing: Camille Kelly – 2nd place, Gabrielle Moore – 2nd place, Rayna Christy – 3rd place

Editorial Writing: Camille Kelly – 2nd place, Gabrielle Moore – 4th, Rayna Christy – 6th place

Feature Writing: Rayna Christy – 2nd place, Gabrielle Moore – 3rd place

News Writing: Valencia Allen – 3rd place, Rayna Christy – 5th place

Computer Science: Raymond Arrington – 2nd place, Jeremiah Rust – 3rd place, Evan Landry – 4th place, Ryan Foreman – 5th place, Andrew Boudreaux – 6th place

The teams will compete next at the Sabine Pass Shark Meat Invitational on Jan. 14.
