FFA (Future Farmers of America) is a student organization where students learn important skills like leadership and treating people with kindness and respect. It supplies a mechanism for students to practice and get recognition for agriculture class. FFA helps students get a start on things that would help with their career in agriculture.

The LCMHS chapter recently celebrated National FFA Week and within the past year, the group has grown to 25 members. They are hoping to gain more members as they continue to grow. According to president Zoe Ryan, she is proud of the group’s continued growth.

“Our fundraiser this year was a huge success,” she said. “I am proud of my group and I hope I’ve encouraged them to keep the program alive and achieve even bigger goals in the coming years.”

Ryan said this organization has taught her important skills such as professional speaking and how to lead a group. Because of FFA and her experience as an officer, she said her future is bright. This organization has also helped her get a job at the Bridge City Animal Hospital.

Many students who join FFA already have a passion for animals, such as sophomore Julianna Boudreaux. She said ever since she was little, she has had a bond with animals and knew she wanted to find a career path that included animals. FFA has helped her with this goal.

“I joined a little club in 4th grade called 4-H,” Boudreaux said. “I was in that club for five years and in 8th grade we took a tour to a high school local to me and I heard about the program, and I just knew I had to be in FFA.”
