Head soccer coach Jeremy Watzlavik tells junior John Michael Gonzalez where to go on the field.

He has won two major awards and helped the LCM boys soccer  team win district for the first time in school history, all within the span of seven years. One thing is for sure – head soccer coach Jeremy Watzlavik has had a lot of success in a short amount of time.

Watzlavik was awarded “District 20-4A Coach of the Year” and also The Beaumont Enterprise “Boys Soccer Super Gold Coach of the Year.” Even though the awards were given to him specifically, he said he was proud of his team for their accomplishments.

“Those awards may have my name on them, but they are a representation of the team’s performance,” Watzlavik said.

Even though this year’s team struggled to find its identity and had a hard time playing to its full ability at the beginning of the season, Watzlavik said the team has recently come to form. The team’s goal is to make playoffs again and advance as far as possible, perhaps even making it to State. So far, the team is on course for making playoffs for the third year in a row.

When looking for a new team member, Watzlavik said he looks for a player that has skill and athleticism, but also a strong personal drive for the sport. He will especially miss this group of seniors once they graduate.

“It takes time for a coach to cope after spending four years with a player,” he said. “It takes time to adjust to the missing personalities on the field.”
