There is no doubt that when you walk into a classroom, there will be at least one energy drink on the corner of a desk. The percentage of energy drinks that are consumed by teenagers a day is constantly growing.
The consumption of energy drinks by teenagers should be limited.
These days, over one third of teenagers are consuming energy drinks. That is 1,080 of the kids enrolled in this school. With brands like Bloom, Alani Nu, Celsius, Monster, and others being stocked in every store, teenagers have easy access to these drinks. With such accessibility, these kids can easily become addicted.
Most energy drinks contain chemical taurine. The human body is only supposed to consume three grams of taurine a day. A single Alani Nu drink contains two grams. More than one Alani Nu a day can cause headaches, nausea, and stomach pain. Many teenagers drink more than one energy drink a day. That caffeine is then paired with other forms of caffeine like coffee, tea, and soda.
Furthermore, it is recommended that children ages 12-18 should only have 100mg of caffeine a day. Celsius and Alani Nu contain 200mg of caffeine. That is double the recommended amount. Bloom energy drinks contain, on average, 180mg of caffeine, and Monster energy drinks contain only 86mg of caffeine. Regardless, any of these drinks in excess can cause health problems for anyone, especially teenagers.
Every teenager should reduce their consumption of energy drinks to almost none. At the very least, they should research the drink they want to consume to make sure it is safe to drink and how much they should be drinking.
Teenagers should limit the amount of energy drinks they consume a week.
