We are living in an age where everyone is constantly scrolling. Platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube Shorts deliver information in seconds. Stories are condensed into quick clips, opinions into captions, and entertainment into highlights. Short content is everywhere and the usage of long form content has decreased.
Long-form content is better.
First, long-form content develops critical thinking. A short video tells you what to think, but a full article, documentary, or podcast explains why. It provides context and evidence, helping you form your own opinions.
Second, long-form content builds attention span. Short-form media trains the brain to expect constant stimulation. Long-form content rebuilds focus and patience — skills that matter in school and in life.
Third, long-form content builds something in your mind. When you watch a full show or read a book, you follow the story, understand the characters, and see how events connect. You learn from it. Short-form content is quickly consumed and quickly forgotten.
While short-form content is fast and convenient, it often lacks depth and can trap us in endless scrolling for quick dopamine hits. Instead, we should use both short-form and long-form content when needed and be mindful of what we consume overall.
Long-form content is better because it helps us think deeper, focus longer, and grow more.
