The varsity Bear Football team secured a district championship last Friday night after beating Huffman, 43-40. The team will wrap up the regular season when they play Lumberton at 7:30 p.m. this Friday at Battlin’ Bear Stadium.
The Bears are currently 6-0 in district play and the only undefeated team in the district.
This past game against Huffman meant even more to junior quarterback Braylon Lewis, who was awarded KOGT player of the week. Lewis ran the ball 16 times for 120 yards and three touchdowns, and he completed seven to eight passes for 112 yards.
“KOGT Player of the Week is very special to me because it is an honor to be recognized for my commitment to my team’s success,” Lewis said. “We have worked so hard to get to where we are. Our coaches have been putting us through workouts since the summer and it has been showing this season.”
The game’s atmosphere was electric, according to Lewis. The goal now is to be State champions.
“Everyone was having a great time, and we feel accomplished,” Lewis said. “This is just the first step towards our end goal.”
