Quiz Bowl Team Wins Challenge

The LCM Quiz Bowl team won the Channel 6 Quiz Bowl challenge on Feb. 27 and will be competing again in the near future.

The team consists of junior Matthew Cox, senior Cameron Blanchard, and captain senior Justice Peveto. At the competition, they battled against and beat four other schools, allowing them to take home the championship title.

When asked how they would describe Quiz Bowl in their own words, Peveto said its speedy academic chaos, while Blanchard described it as a contest to see which team of nerds can out nerd all the other nerds.

“I love the competition,” Peveto said. “The chance to show what I know, and having fun with your teammates working towards a common goal.”

The team meets in the library every Wednesday morning from 7:40 to 8:15 a.m. to practice for upcoming competitions and study together.

“Quiz Bowl is hard to prepare for since the questions can literally come from anything,” Blanchard said. “It’s not like you can start studying for it a few weeks ahead of time and be okay. The biggest challenge with Quiz Bowl is making sure each team member compliments each other. If all three players are good at World History, but don’t know sports, music, or math, you’ll miss a lot of questions and your team probably won’t win.”

The team will participate in the LSCO Quiz Bowl challenge in April. The matches featuring the LCM team for the Channel Six challenge will air on KFDM on the following Saturday’s: March 26, April 9 and April 16 at noon.

“I enjoy Quiz Bowl,” Blanchard said. “I get to show off everything I’ve learned over the years, and not what’s just taught in school.”
