LCM High School and the counselor’s office will hold its first “College Connections” program this Thursday, Jan. 7 at 6:30 p.m. The purpose of this program is to help seniors prepare for college and get useful tips from for LCM graduates who are currently in college. All seniors and their parents are encouraged to attend.

“Although many seniors have visited colleges and probably attended preview days, these events usually promote that particular school,” Higher Ed Coordinator Marcia Brown. “Most of the information shared will not be focused on a particular college/university but will be about what college is like – especially the first year.”

The LCM graduates who will make up the panel are currently attending a variety of universities, such as Lamar University, McNeese State University, Texas A&M, The University of Texas, and Baylor.

“The group of graduates includes college freshmen through seniors,” Brown said. “Hearing the views from LCM students who the current seniors studied, played, cheered, marched, danced, acted, etc., with will make the information more meaningful.”

The college students on the panel will answer many questions such as why they chose their particular school, how many hours they took their first semester, how they handle finances, how they communicate with their parents, did they need a vehicle, did they work their first semester, did they go to tutoring, did they join any organizations, where they lived, did they need a computer, and much more.

“We are hoping the make this an annual activity and perhaps open it to juniors and seniors next year,” Brown said.
