Last week, the LCM Varsity boys basketball team beat the Vidor Pirates with a score of 70-68. Senior player Andrew Daspit played hard and helped the Bears win with a total of 10 points.

“The highlight of the game, for me, was making my free throws at the end of the game to seal the win,” Daspit said. “My goal with my team this year is to make it far into the playoffs.”

Last year, the Bears made it to the second round of playoffs (Area). If they make it further this time, it’ll be a great year for those that are playing for the last time in high school. Daspit has always played basketball and said he has loved every minute he’s had on the court.

“I’ve been playing for seven years in organized teams, but I’ve really been playing [basketball] all my life,” Daspit said. “I really want to be a leader on the team and overcome obstacles on and off the court with the team.”

The Bears will be taking on Silsbee and Hardin Jefferson later this year, who Daspit said are both challenging teams. Daspit and the Bears also can’t wait to start playing district games, which will begin on Jan. 5.

“I’m looking forward to our first district game,” he said. “We’ll be playing Bridge City, and that’s our next home game.”
