Many students at LCM have hidden talents. A couple of weeks ago, senior Jamal Dotson-Hudson decided that he wouldn’t hide his anymore when he performed at the choir-sponsored school talent show. There, Dotson-Hudson performed a self-written song called “Wonderland.”

“Wonderland” is a song about love and the girl of his dreams, but the inspiration of this song may not be what most people expect.

“The song is ironic and sarcastic, because I had a girlfriend who treated me the opposite of how the girl in the song did,” Hudson said. “The song was just a rude, sarcastic statement, because she faked everything. I was heartbroken. I started playing a tune on my guitar and it just happened.”

Music hasn’t always been Hudson’s passion – for a long time, writing was more up his alley.

“Writing poetry has always been (my passion),” Hudson said. “It wasn’t until I started playing instruments is when (music) became a passion.”

Hudson saw the talent show as an open door to showcase his talents and reveal to the student body and community what he can do.

“I finally had the confidence to show people what I’m capable of,” Hudson said. “I just got tired of being another shadow walking in the hallway.”
