Change is inevitable. With a new school year, it is one thing you can always count on. Since the retirement of long-time volleyball coach Vicki Castino last year, Cammie Palmer has stepped into the head coach position.

Alexis Cox, one of four captains leading the volleyball team, said it’s always an adjustment to get a new coach.

“I love Coach C and I love Coach Palmer, and I’ve had Coach Palmer before, and I know how she works and how she coaches,” Cox said. “We do condition a lot more, some people don’t know how Coach Palmer works, but some of us do, so that’s a challenge.”

Not only do the Lady Bears have a new coach, but they also have several new members on the team.

“We have a bunch of new players so we have to team bond a lot to get used to each other and to know how each of us works,” Cox said. “To prepare for this season we’ve worked out, we’ve conditioned, we’re working as a team, and bonding all the time.”

Spending time bonding with other players is especially important as a senior.

Cox, one of the seniors leading the Lady Bears, has been playing volleyball for eight years. She understands that the sport, and being a senior, isn’t all fun and games.

“Being a volleyball senior makes me wanna go all out even more and show what I can do,” Cox said. “My favorite part of being captain is leading the team, and one of the challenges is making the really tough decisions. One part I’m really dreading about this season is senior night. I don’t wanna leave, but I am looking forward to trying to win the district title!”
