Q: How would other people describe your high school self?
A: I think other people would describe my high school self as friendly, outgoing and athletic. I loved my friends, and I loved being active in sports.
Q: Was there a career you wanted to pursue or pursued before teaching?
A: Before teaching I was actually pursuing a career as a Game Warden.
Q: Tell us about how you got into teaching.
A: I was working here at the high school as a paraprofessional in the Alternative Behavior unit when I graduated with my degree. There were several teaching positions open so I was able to transition into my own classroom.
Q: What do you do outside of school for fun?
A: I love to run 5ks with my husband and spend time with my kids. That usually involves sitting on the sidelines watching a practice or game they’re involved in.
Q: When people get to know you, what are they most surprised to learn about you?
A: That I have 5 kids, and they are all really close in age.
Q: What is something you know a weird amount about that is not related to something you teach?
A: I know a weird amount of information about death row.
Q: Tell us the story about what you are most proud of yourself for.
A: I’m most proud of myself for continuing my education and showing my kids that if you want something bad enough, and work hard towards it, anything is possible.
Q: Who is someone you are thankful for and why?
A: I’m thankful for my husband. Jorge. He has been a huge support for me while I work on finishing my master’s degree and juggle all the other responsibilities on top of that. I couldn’t do it without him.
Q: What advice would you give to your younger self?
A: To not be so hard on myself.
Q: What do you hope to be remembered for?
A: Being a teacher that is loved and cared for her students.
Q: What is on your bucket list? What aspirations do you have for the future?
A: I don’t really have a bucket list. I’m thankful for every day I’m given and hope to live in a way that serves others.
