Senior William Rodgers in involved in a variety of activities, ranging from UIL Math and Computer Science to Interact. Alongside these extracurriculars, he also works outside of school. When Rodgers is not at work or school, he enjoys going to the gym, playing video games and racquet ball. He also helps his UIL Math teammates in his free time as captain of the team.
When Rodgers graduates from college, he wants to be a chemical engineer, to work “to help make the world a better place.”
Rodgers’ biggest inspiration is Ricky Ryan, since he “is the best coach I ever had and he made me into who I am today.” He also attributes his motivation to learning, since “there’s always something for me to learn.”
His favorite class is Dual Credit Chemistry, since “Mrs. Dunn is an amazing teacher that is incredibly funny with crazy experiments daily.”
When asked what he is most proud of himself for, Rodgers answered with his own growth.
“One thing I’m very proud of is being who I today,” Rodgers said. “I came from not being the brightest kid at school to what I am now, smarter, faster, and happier.”
When it comes to what Rodgers wants people to know, he’s got one piece he wanted to add.
“Where there’s a Will, there’s a way,” Rodgers said.
According to math teacher and UIL sponsor Ricky Ryan, Rodgers enjoys a challenge and excels when he is challenged.
“I have worked with William on UIL calculator and mathematics for the last four years and he has improved his knowledge and skills every year,” Ryan said. “He has also taken things learned in UIL and applied them in his chemistry, physics, college algebra, and college trigonometry class. William doesn’t complain. He is a joy to work with, a model student, and an all-around great person. He represents his school well.”
