Freshman Madison McConnell is on the varsity soccer team, and she also enjoys art and books. She looks up to Marie Currie because “she is a girl boss,” as well as Rosalind Franklin.

Her favorite quote is, “Love is a serious mental disease,” from Plato. Her goals for the future are to continue to make varsity soccer and to be valedictorian her senior year. Her favorite book is “The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo” and her favorite TV shows are “Criminal Minds” and “Sherlock Holmes.”

In her free time, she likes to read and draw. She also loves her cats, Norma and Mr. Molly. This year, debate has been one of her favorite classes because all of her friends are in the same class and she loves to argue.

According to McConnell’s art teacher Betsy Bland, she is a pleasure to have in class.

“Maddie is only a freshman, but her great attitude, sense of humor, and wisdom are way above the average 9th grade level,” Bland said. “She is extremely talented in art and amazes me with her creativity and her level of artistic ability. She does all of this with great humility and is a joy to have in Art 1.”
