UIL Academics places second at Nederland meet

The UIL Academic teams competed at the Nederland Bulldog Winter Academic Meet on Saturday, Jan. 22. LCM placed second overall in the small school division, behind Sabine Pass.

The following students placed in their individual events:

Number Sense: Jessica Allen – 3rd, 2nd place team

Current Issues and Events: Christine Qi – 6th

Copy Editing: Rayna Christy – 1st, Gabrielle Moore – 3rd

Feature Writing: Camille Kelly – 1st, Rayna Christy – 5th, Gabrielle Moore – 6th

Computer Science: Alex Poole – 1st, Layden Webb – 3rd, Emily Oldbury – 4th, Jessica Allen – 5th, 1st place team

Headline Writing: Rayna Christy – 1st

Editorial Writing: Camille Kelly – 1st, Valencia Allen – 3rd

Informative Speaking: Smira Shahab – 6th

Poetry: Cole Watson – 1st, Jaiden Trussell, 4th

Prose: Abby Stevenson – 2nd, Jessica Ridout – 4th, Hannah Gilliam – 6th

News Writing: Camille Kelly – 1st, Valencia Allen – 4th

The journalism team placed first overall. LCM also won first place for overall speech. The teams will next compete at the PNG Academic Meet on Feb. 12.
