The Computer Science team has gotten off to an exciting start this season after big wins at the Seven Lakes High School Kickoff Classic last month. Nick Mugleston, Derrick Martin and Dajhaun Myles competed on the Varsity team, while Lovejot Singh, Lucas Russell and Sukhjot Singh competed on the Varsity B team.

Out of 95 teams, the Varsity team placed fifth and the Varsity B team placed 34th. The students competed against students from 23 different schools, including those who have been previous Regional qualifiers at the 6A level and the current State champions.

“We were the only 4A school present,” Computer Science coach Terry Morris said. “All other schools were either 6A or private.”

In the written portion of the test, Mugleston placed seventh out of 268 students while Martin placed 11th. If the written contest had been considered, the Varsity team would have placed third out of 95 teams which would have put them right behind the current 6A State Champions.

“I feel I made a couple of dumb mistakes that could’ve been corrected,” Martin said. “I was most proud that on a bad day we still are the fifth best team in all of Texas 1A-6A.”

Although the competition had a few challenging moments for each team member in the programming portion of the meet, the team plans to practice even harder and to keep doing what they’ve been doing to become the best in the state.

“Next year, we’re definitely getting first,” Myles said. “It’s a promise. Preparation is the same as always; work smarter, harder, and longer than the competition.”
