The Lady Bear Softball team has started this season off strong. As of now, the team’s overall record is 17-4-1 overall and 3-0 in district. According to head coach Dena Adkins, the team’s number one goal is to win district. Their second is to make memories and have fun.
The Lady Bears practice every day after school, mainly focusing on fundamentals of ground balls, fly ball, throwing to the cut-off, tagging at bases, bunt defense, bunting, hitting, pitching. They hit all areas at every practice.
Adkins said the Lady Bears’ biggest rivals in the district are Bridge City and Vidor. However, Adkins said she tells her girls if they play their best, they are a hard team to beat.
According to Adkins, there have been many standouts so far this season and the girls have made the game worth watching.
“Ella Stephenson has already pitched two no hitters in district with one of those games being a perfect game,” Adkins said. “Eden Frenzel is an offensive spark for us and if she gets on base, she is just about guaranteed to score. Lexis Moss, Tessa Erickson, and Keylie Washburn have been hitting bombs and knocking in the runs while Jillan Brown has filled the designated player role very well and has become queen of the doubles.”
The team wants to encourage their fans come out to home and away games to show their support in the stands, get loud, and have a good time.
The next softball game takes place in Silsbee on Friday, March 14.
