Bear Baseball is off to a successful start this season with a 12-3. record. According to head coach Hunter Hagler, excluding the weather, the team has played well. They have continued to grow throughout the season so far and it is very exciting to see their growth. Hagler said he is most looking forward to seeing the countless hours of work that they have done come to fruition, like putting all the pieces together and going out and competing.
“Our biggest challenges this year will be staying within ourselves and playing the game the way we know how to play, competing from pitch to pitch until the last one is thrown,” Hagler said.
The team’s main goal this season is to compete with a relentless mentality each and every time that they step on the field, continuing to know who they are and what makes them great. A year of experience is a big help. They returned all starters from the previous year, so having that extra year under their belt and knowing the expectations and standards that are set is a big tool in the toolbox.
According to Hagler, the players’ biggest competitors are not the other teams, but themselves. Bear Baseball plays in one of the strongest districts in the state, as far as competition goes. Understanding that and knowing who they are and what makes them the best they can be is something that they compete against daily. They overcome this daily with a great mindset and trusting the process and what comes along with it
“For us, leadership can come from anyone on any given day, big situations and guys stepping up in a team game where they are individually at times competing for each other is where our true leadership comes out,” Hagler said.
The Bears will host the Hudson Hornets this Friday at 6:30 p.m. at home.
