Last Friday, the Lady Bear soccer team competed against Center in the first round of playoffs and came out on top, ending the game with a score of 7-0. This is a successful win for the team and allows their season to be extended another week; this is also the first time in a while that the girls have advanced past the first round.

Although months into their season, the team is still working as hard as ever. They are making a conscious effort to make sure this will not be their last game.

“I’m so excited about the upcoming game,” senior Haley Ebner said. “We want to go far so I can assure you we’ll go get it done. I personally am not ready for it to be over considering this is my last year, so I can guarantee I’ll be doing everything in my power to help our team succeed.”

The girls will be playing the Lorena Lady Leopards tonight at 6 p.m. at Huntsville High School for their second round of playoffs. They have recognized their weak points and are still working to improve daily.

“We’ve been working a lot on slowing down our game, having complete control,” Ebner said. “Not only have we been working on the field but also off. We bond together, which is important. Being connected with your team makes a huge difference in the way you play together.”

This has been a long season for these girls, but one full of rewards nonetheless. The team came out on top as co-district champions and has a 11-4-1 record.

“Our team as a whole has tremendously improved throughout this season,” Ebner said. “We’ve learned about each other and we’re a pretty tight knit group of girls. We know one another’s capabilities on the field and because of that we can move the ball really well. We’ve all improved, except for maybe Megan Brzezinski. Can she really get any better?”
