Key Club prepares for convention
Nine members of the KEY club will travel to Dallas this Thursday, April 21 for the annual Texas Oklahoma district convention.
This will be the 14th convention that sponsor Woody Cox has attended. In past years, the convention has been held in many other places, including Oklahoma. It is now hosted in the Sheraton Hotel in downtown Dallas.
“DCON is so much fun,” Key Club president Jessica Robertson said. “It opens you eyes to how big the KEY club organization really is. We’re a small club so convention puts things into perspective.”
At convention, members attend seminars to improve the club and get ideas for the club and future projects.
“Last year, an idea of a ‘senior prom’ was introduced to us a convention,” Robertson said. “It’s a prom for the elderly at the nursing home. It’s a great place to get future projects, and to throw the ones we do out there to others.”
Although the year is coming to an end, there are many more available projects to students through KEY Club.
“We have Eco Fest at Shangri La on the 23rd, anything that may come up in Deweyville that we’re invited to, and maybe even a social with another club in May,” Cox said.
