Batman or Superman? Choose your side.

There has been quite a big debate on who will win in a fight Batman or Superman for quite awhile. Whose side are you on?

In 2013, director Zack Snyder announced at the San Diego Comic-Con that he will be releasing a movie to end all arguments about the debate. On March 25, “BatmanVSuperman” was released into theaters in the United States.

In the movie, the city of Metropolis, including billionaire Alexander (Lex) Luthor, believes that Superman thinks too highly of himself and that he needs to bring his ego down a notch. In order to do so, Luthor decides to take matters into his own hands and begins to frame Superman for various explosions that involve him being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

He also had some of his workers spray paint letters onto Batman’s checks, such as “you let your family die,” and framed Superman for that as well. These cruel actions did exactly what they were meant to and turned Batman against Superman. This is actually quite a smart play on Luthor’s end. Also, Luthors character was portrayed as smart and deceiving, as he was supposed to be.

Though comics appeal to me, the movie was quite a letdown. The movie was too built up, overrated, and over-advertised. The idea behind the movie was amazing and planned quite well, but seeing it on screen was almost like a cheesy, B-rated movie. The events and intensity leading up to the fight were probably the only good parts about the movie.

The whole downfall plan created by Lex was amazing and thought out really well, but the fight was just a punch here and punch there and Superman almost getting killed by Batman before he reveals his mother’s name is also Martha. Also, the end scene where Batman and Superman step up to stop Lex and kill Doomsday should have stayed that way. Wonder Woman was irrelevant to the fight and was not needed to help defeat him at all.

Lastly, after Superman’s death, Lois Lane might as well have been emotionless. Lois’ character was not nearly emotional enough during the movie, let alone after Superman died. While most people would be distraught that the love of their life just got killed in front of their eyes, she just stood in the distance and looked at his lifeless body. Also, she showed no sorrow or discomfort, before or after his funeral when she stayed by his grave before dropping a handful of dirt on it. The actor portrayed Lois in the looks category well with only a few quirks here and there, but she did not show any feeling what so ever.

In the end, the concept of the movie was good and creative, but it should have stayed on the pages of comic books and not brought to the big screen.
