Beware! The Undead are Coming on Oct. 11

Andrea Steward, Writer

The Season 6 premiere of The Walking Dead is this Sunday, Oct. 11. The episode, First Time Again, is going to start the new season off with a bang. It picks up exactly where Season 5 left off. Rick and the group are still having trouble getting accustomed to being in Alexandria, and a new danger threatens to drive them apart. The ‘promise’ of safety is balanced against the huge cultural clash separating the desensitized group from those who have been sheltered within the gated community for the entirety of the walker outbreak. Considering Morgan is back again, it is going to be too enticing to miss.

Morgan originally acted in the show’s early days. He and his son helped Rick when he first woke up from his coma. They told him what he needed to know about the dead. Morgan even took the time to demonstrate how to properly kill those who were already dead. He turned up again at the close of last season and it will be incredibly interesting to see Rick from his friends’ eyes. In the time they knew each other, Rick refused to kill the living, under any circumstances. Now Rick will do anything in order to stay alive. Morgan looked visibly hardened – a drastic change from the last time viewers saw him in Season 1.

There will not be a dull moment in the coming season. The show has always revamped itself by shifting scenery and adding/killing characters. By doing this, the writers somehow keep the show fresh and new, even if the threat of the undead remains continuous. The only real threat is that the creators will run out of ways to continue this, and that the storyline will fall flat. It seems unlikely that this will happen, given their continued success, so fans should have no fear.

The Walking Dead looks very much at the top of its game by its wide-spread popularity. So fans should set the DVR to record at 9 p.m. on Sunday to revisit this post- apocalyptic world. The Walkers are not the only thing fans need to worry about.
