Jazz Region tryouts were held this past Saturday at LCM and six schools in the area competed for a limited number of positions.

Although countless student musicians tried out, only a select few made it and will get the chance to perform with other students in the region. Senior Troy Kaufman has advanced in previous years and is very familiar with getting to perform with students from other schools.

“The experience makes you better,” he said. “It makes you a better musician.”

According to  Kaufman, the music for the regional concert is released around May of the previous year and that gives the students plenty of time to prepare and perfect their Etudes, which is the music they are given to play.

Kaufman said this experience is good for newcomers who have never participated in an intense competition.

“Not many people make it,” Kaufman said. “Only two advanced last year to make the band, so it’s a pretty tough competition.”

The following LCM students advanced this year: Akhil Tejani, Christain Adams, Hunter Fuselier, Austin Girouard, Thomas King, Cody Girouard, Logan Comeaux, Tommy Holland and Devyn Drake.
