Junior Basketball Player Leads Bears to Victory
Junior Andrew Daspit has the gleaming honor of being on the Varsity Basketball team. This exemplifies the qualities of an effective athlete and student, ambitious, devoted, perseverant and confident. Daspit is a major leader for the team, and believes he is perfectly capable of taking this position.
Daspit was introduced to basketball by his father when he was young. His dad’s introduction to the game is what made him the player he is today.
As a pregame ritual, Daspit and the rest of the basketball team believe music and a prayer are the best rituals to get mentally prepared.
As a basketball player that is leading the team, Daspit has had to overcome many challenges in his own way.
“I keep playing hard no matter what,” Daspit said.
Daspit practices every chance he gets, whether it be in his free time or in private lessons with his instructor Seth Harley.
“(During my lessons) we work on dribbling, shooting, and game situations,” he said.
With school and his other sports he’s involved in, it’s hard to stay motivated on just one thing.
“I keep myself motivated by focusing on what needs to be done and what’s best for the team and me,” Daspit said.
With his future close at hand, he hopes to play college basketball one day.
“No doubt, this game will always be a part of my life,” Daspit said.
