Girls Basketball Has High Hopes for New Season
The girls basketball teams started their season in the end of October and now are well into their season. The record for the varsity team is currently 4-2 and their next game will be Tuesday, Dec. 2 starting at 4:30 p.m.
“We have Ninth, Junior Varsity, and Varsity teams and all of our athletes are working hard,” Head Basketball Coach Linda Riddick said, “The varsity leaders this year are Tori Thompson and Josie Nimitz.”
The varsity team has set goals for the year and hopes to achieve them. They hope to go as far as possible with the season ahead of them.
“We’re always looking for a district championship, and competing deep in the play offs,” Riddick said. “The state tournament has been moved to San Antonio this year and we would love to be a part of that history.”
The team is putting in a lot of work and they are practicing every day that they don’t have a game. According to Riddick, juggling gym time has been tough between all the sports being played.
“With volleyball competing in playoffs, the boy’s basketball season starting, and our own practice time it has been a struggle,” Riddick said. “But one of the good things about LCM is that the coaching staff works together for the success of all our athletes.”
Last year, the team tied for third place in district and lost in the bi-district round. This year, they are in a new district so the hopes are high.
“We want to continue and build on the playoff tradition and represent LCM well,” Riddick said.
