Senior Evelyn Mares is involved in several extracurricular activities such as Interact, Key Club, and Book Club. She serves as an officer in National Honor Society and Student Council, and she takes part in the Lady Bear Soccer program. Outside of school, she does volunteer work, dog sits, helps her mom sell her crafts, and spends time with her family.
Her biggest role models are her parents because of their hard work and dedication to leave food on the table, even if they are left with nothing. They inspire her because of their determination, that anything can be achieved if you set your mind to it. Mares said her parents always say, “tu pueder hacerio” [you can do it].
Some of her hobbies include painting, making new crafts, reading books, and watching movies whenever she gets the chance. Her goals for the future consist of attending college, majoring in biology, applying for dental school, earning her DDS or DMD degree, completing orthodontics residency program, and preparing and passing the NBDE to become an orthodontist. Once that’s finished, she plans on traveling the world.
Mares said that her greatest accomplishment is helping people. She always seeks to give people a hand, even if they don’t ask because it’s heartwarming to see people smile afterwards. Her favorite class this year is honors physics because of all the projects. It may be challenging, but that’s what makes it fun.
Some advice Mares would give her younger self is don’t stress and relax. Live your life with confidence and ignore what people say, because life is short. Time goes by fast, so enjoy every moment.
Mares’ favorite part about coming to LCM is meeting different people and learning new things. The things that motivate her having supportive friends and family. She said she is motivated to learn something new every day.
According to business management teacher Kara Lacouture, Mares is a phenomenal student – both inside and outside of the classroom.
“Her positive attitude and unwavering dedication contribute to her academic success, showcasing a unique and inspiring character. She is a joy to have as a student.”
