Sophomore Kassie Ruiz is involved in multiple activities including wind ensemble, jazz band, and cosmetology. Outside of school, she is involved in her church’s youth group.
According to Ruiz, her biggest role model is her older sister because she taught her to be a better person and inspires her through her own actions and kindness.
Some of Ruiz’s hobbies include listening to music, playing soccer, and playing her saxophone.
Her goals for the future are to become an esthetician and to meet more people.
Ruiz’s biggest accomplishment is that she and the rest of the marching band advanced to the Area finals in 2023.
Her accomplishment also explains why her favorite class this year is one of her band classes, jazz band. She enjoys it because it is her first year doing it and luckily, she ended up loving it.
Ruiz’s advice to her younger self would be, “Do not be so hard on yourself; mistakes are part of learning,” and “Do not be afraid to walk away from toxic relationships.”
According to Ruiz, her favorite part about going to LCM is being able to see all her friends, as well as her favorite teachers.
Ruiz’s motivation throughout the day is setting a good example and being a role model for her little niece.
According to Ruiz’s geometry teacher Julie Mashaney, she never meets a stranger.
“She effortlessly makes people feel welcome and part of her circle,” Mashaney said of Ruiz. “She is funny, but in a way that doesn’t make jokes at others’ expense. She is helpful and will reach out to others to lift them up academically and emotionally. Having her in class for two years in a row has been a blessing.”
