Q: How would other people describe your high school self?
A: I graduated from a small 2A school called Tidehaven High School. It is roughly between Houston and Victoria. I played football, basketball, and tennis. I graduated in 1988 as the high school valedictorian of a class of 42. It was a country area with a lot of hunting, fishing, and burning your trash in 55-gallon drums.
Q: Was there a career you wanted to pursue or pursued before teaching?
A: I have done several jobs along the way. In high school and my early college years I wanted to be a programmer. As far as the jobs, I have had I have had several.
Q: What do you do outside of school for fun?
A: I love working on my 16 acres in Jasper. I also spend a lot of time at UIL practices and Academic meets for CS and spending time with my 3 dogs.
Q: When people get to know you, what are they most surprised to learn about you?
A: That I worked in Iraq as a contractor supporting the military doing logistics and supply.
Q: What is something you know a weird amount about that’s not related to something you teach?
A: Woodworking, Dungeons and Dragons, and the Magic the Gathering card game.
Q: Tell us the story about what you are most proud of yourself for?
A: I think it would be having the opportunity to work with students over the last 14 years in UIL Academics. I have been blessed with working with some talented kids. The CS teams have been very successful winning District every year since 2015, and winning Regionals every year other than the last two since 2015. We have advanced to state with either a team or individual every year since 2015 with two state championships in 2017 and 2019.
Q: Who is someone you are thankful for and why?
A: My parents and grandparents for supporting me and always being there.
Q: What advice would you give to your younger self?
A: Eat less and do more.
Q: What do you hope to be remembered for?
A: My humor
Q: What’s on your bucket list?
A: Getting my property cleared in Jasper cleared and ready to retire on. Hopefully winning a few more state championships in UIL.
