In a world often focused on the material, the Bear Believers student group at LCM is making faith a priority. With weekly meetings, guest speakers, and community outreach, they are proving that belief is alive and well among today’s youth. It is mainly a student lead group that is under the direction of Jennifer Seago.
This group has several upcoming activities planned to help others in the community.
“We will be visiting a local nursing home to sing and pray with the residents,” Seago said. “In November, we will collect nonperishable foods to participate in the Granger Chevrolet Can Food Drive.”
According to Seago, the meetings are every Wednesday morning from 7:30 to 8:00 in the lecture hall. The group has many different speakers who come to talk to the students in order to give them an experience to remember. Although not every meeting has a speaker, it is always an adventure within the group as they push to be closer in faith. The group also has sponsors who feed the students every week.
Bear Believers encourages all new members to join. They are invited to come anytime they are able to with no dues or an official sign-up for the club. All students must do is show up to the meetings. The group has already had several events this school year.
“We had See You at the Pole on Wednesday, September 25 in the morning where Trevor Koonce from First Baptist Church Orange and several students lead worship and prayer,” Seago said. “That night, the See You at the Pole Rally was organized by outside sources and students. It was the largest turnout that this event has had.”
The officers of Bear Believers include Caleb Hamilton (President), Karson Potter (Vice President), Bay Reynolds, Dakota Ezernack, Jenna Huckaby, Madison Loupe, and Allyson Welch. Bear Believers means something different for each officer; it is a part of them and who they are.
“Bear Believers means a lot to me because it is amazing to see all the kingdom minded people rallying together to share and learn the gospel,” Potter said. “People take time out of their morning to come and grow spiritually means the world.”
