Recently, eleven LCM choir students competed for a spot in the TMEA Region choirs. Six of those who auditioned will represent LCM at the All-Region Concert in October and two of those will advance to the next round of competition which is one step closer to being an All-State musician.
The choir has competitions around the corner that they have been putting in the work for. They just completed the first individual competition leading to All-State. In that competition, two students are moving on to the next round which will take place on Nov. 18. Their next individual contest event will be a Solo Contest on February 1 and then UIL Concert and Sight-reading Contest which is their group event that will be March 5.
The treble choir members are Scarlett Hogge, Briana James, Victoria Sulak, and Chloe Zarate. The students moving on to the next round of competition are Shalee Perkins and Levi Strother.
“I am very proud of their hard work and am looking forward to the region concert and the next round of competition,” choir teacher Stephanie Teague said.
These talented students prepare in many ways depending on what event they have coming up.
“The All-Region through All-State process is where we learn the songs together as a group in class, but then they audition by themselves,” Teague said. “For the solo contest, each student chooses a solo that they will work on individually with guidance from me and our accompanist.”
They have been working hard every day to reach their goals and improve as a whole.
“One of their goals is to do better at the Sight-Reading contest so we are working on those skills every day,” Teague said. “My goal is to give them the tools they need to sing more confidently no matter who they are singing in front of.”
