Sophomore Elizabeth Khatt’s family owns a local donut shop called The Donut Palace; here is an inside look at what it’s like to be part of a family-owned business.
Q: What business does your family own?
A: The Donut Palace
Q: Who in your family works? What roles do they play?
A: My mom is the owner. My stepdad also helps when he comes over from Cambodia. My brother, Zachary, works there sometimes.
Q: How long has your business been around?
A: Nov. 2, 2002 (22 years)
Q: What is a day in the life for you?
A: I go to the shop in the morning for breakfast, and then after, I help prepare for the next day.
Q: What are some benefits to living with a family business?
A: I get free food and drinks in the morning and after school.
Q: What are some struggles?
A: My mom waking up really early, having to find workers, and my mom being sick.
Q: Will you work there when you are older?
A: Yes, I might work there next summer.
Q: What are some hopes that you have for the business in the future?
A: I hope that we can find more workers so that my mom can have more vacations and off time.

A: It’s the best donut shop.

My husband went to meet a group of men every morning before he passed away in Oct. 2019. They have sent me cards along with the group of men. Very nice people and good food.
